MERCEDES PAGODA SERIES- 230 SL, 250 SL, 280 SL
Mercedes Benz- a marque synonymous with quality , luxury, style and innovation- all features very much in evidence in the performance and aesthetics of the Mercedes ‘ Pagoda’ series. Built between the years 1966-1971, the second generation SL’s which include the 230, 250 and 280 SL, were unofficially known as ‘Pagodas’ because of their distinctive ‘Pagoda’ style roof line,(lower in the center and higher on either side). These classic cars, made of aluminum and steel were available in three body styles:
Hardtop Coupe
Roadster with Folding soft top
Roadster with both hard and soft tops
All Pagoda cars also had the following features:
-6 cylinder engine
-Bosch electronic fuel injection
– a choice of either 4 spd manual/ 4 spd automatic or 5 spd Manual transmission
( for the 280 SL , the 5 spd was not offered in the US)
-Steel wheels and hubcaps with hubcaps painted in hardtop color
– A Large windshield which gave great visibility and
-Wrap around adjustable seats and individual controls for driver and passenger
The ‘Pagodas’ were upholstered in either MB Tex fabric or leather
