The Excalibur originally emerged in 1964 on behalf of Studebaker. A sketch artist, Brooks Stevens, conceptualized an outline on a restaurant placemat. From there began the development of Excalibur’s design. Within weeks the prototype was built, only days before a huge auto show in New York. Excalibur’s display produced many potential buyers as the sight of it excited viewers. The model has been owned by huge names like Steve McQueen, Shirley JOnes, Frank Sinatra, Sonny and Cher and Dean Martin. This classic series truly turned heads as a display and on the road. By 1986 the model phased out, but it was never forgotten.
