At the time of its release, the Rolls-Royce Corniche 2000 was the most expensive vehicle sold by Rolls-Royce. Its base price upon its release in January 2000 was $359,900 USD, which in 2019 would be over $536,200 for the automobile. It was the fifth series to bear the Rolls-Royce Corniche name, outfitted with all of the signifiers of style and refinement that one would expect from a luxury marque such as the Rolls-Royce. Its design was influenced by previous iterations of the Corniche name as it was by the Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph sedan, which was engineered by BMW. Mechanically, however, it is reminiscent of the Bentley Azure.

The Rolls-Royce Corniche 2000 was the only model under the Corniche name that was developed under the short-lived Volkswagen ownership of the marque. All of the 374 units produced were completely built by hand, and production was split between the Crewe Rolls-Royce plant and later moved to a new plant built by BMW. These were, in fact, the last Rolls-Royce models that were built at said Crewe plant, which was later turned over to solely manufacture Bentley vehicles.
