Following the release of the Rolls-Royce Corniche IV in 1992, there were no new plans to continue the line beyond 1995. In order to commemorate the end of the 34-year old Corniche line, twenty-five unique models were built: the last twenty-five Rolls-Royce Corniche models ever. Virtually identical to their predecessor, save for a special engine and a few celebratory flourishes, the Rolls-Royce Corniche S consisted of uniquely built models with plates on the dashboard designating them as one of the twenty-five special units.
Just like the fourth iteration of the line, the Rolls-Royce S implemented a 4-speed automatic transmission, as well as adaptative suspension. The plastic rear window was replaced with a glass rear window in the new model, and its CFC-free air conditioning, its top mechanism that no longer required manual latching, and its updated driver and passenger airbags made it an overall safe and reliable vehicle. This was, in many ways, the culmination of over thirty years of luxury automobile history, bringing an end to the line that saw celebrities and heads of state everywhere enjoy its comforts.
