As the fifth iteration of the model, the 1969 Porsche 912 was, in theory, the most advanced version until then. A new ventilation and heating system. A flashing warning light system, an illuminated glove compartment, and power windows were only a few of the many updates aiming towards providing a more comfortable and ideal driving experience. Additionally, the batter was moved and larger breaks were implemented in an effort to make the car even safer than it already was.

1969 saw the last year of the Porsche 912 line, but not because of a lack of popularity or revenue. A combination of factors led to Porsche’s executive decision to end the run, including the relocation of the production facilities of the 912 and the development of a new version of the 911 model. Since this new version did fit quite well within the expectations of its market, there was no longer a real need to maintain the Porsche 912 going beyond this production year. This, along with new environmental regulations that would have been a lot more trouble to implement than they were worth, made the 1969 Porsche 912 the last year for its kind.
