Although the 1998 model year was shortened, significantly lowering the production numbers for the Porsche 993 line until then, the 1998 Porsche 911 was the triumphant exit of a successful and advanced stretch for Porsche. Described by them as “a significant advance, not just from a technical, but also a visual perspective,” every part of the car was designed from the ground up, with only 20% of the previous model’s parts being transferred over into the new line. This included a completely new engine that significantly improved upon the power of its predecessor.
There were several variants of the Porsche 993 line, not all of which were a part of the 1998 Porsche 911 model year. This included the Carrera coupe and cabriolet variations, the Targa, the Turbo, the Turbo S, the Carrera 4S, S, and RS, the GT2, the Speedster, and the Turbo Cabriolet. Each variation sported different changes that ranged from minor alterations to visually noticeable modifications, such as rear engines or glass sunroofs.
