The 1964 Porsche 356 would be the last revision of the Porsche 356 line. Being the last iteration of the iconic lineup, it had to leave a noticeable imprint on the company’s history. And that it did. Not only did the model feature new disc brakes all around, but it also had the option for the most powerful push rod engine ever produced by Porsche at the time.

Even as Porsche introduced the successor to the 356, the Porsche 911, the line saw its most successful year in its sixteen-year history. 14,151 units were produced in 1964, a bump that could be explained by a variety of factors, such as the cost of the new Porsche offerings, the unparalleled power of the new engine, or the status that the line had created for itself during its run. Regardless of what it was, the 1964 Porsche 356 proudly carved its own niche in the edifice of the Porsche pantheon.
