1960 Mercedes Benz 190SL

Mercedes Benz automobiles were very popular in Europe however the marque wasn’t well known in the United States prior to 1953. Max Hoffman, importer of Mercedes- Benz into the United States saw a golden opportunity for Mercedes to make its mark in the American market. The US public had embraced the automobile and Mercedes  wanted to capture a piece of this booming industry. Hoffman suggested that Mercedes capitalize on its hugely successful and iconic 300 SL by offering a more affordable alternative to the American public and thus the  190SL was born.

By 1960 Mercedes had long established its place in America with the successes of the 300 and 190SL. In 1955 1,727 cars were produced but my 1960 that number had more than doubled with 3,977 cars produced.
