The Firebird Formula 400 Convertible was offered in spurts along with the Firebird Formula release. As an upgraded companion to the Firebird Formula, the convertible was up against competitors such as Chevrolet, Ford, and General Motors. All of which also offered convertible versions of their pony cars as well. The Firebird Formula 400 Convertible had its own twist however, as the body was designed specifically for smooth transitions, speed, and style. The first generation model was offered through 1969, and only 8 of the Trans Am convertible models were made with the Formula 400. The second generation models were not available until 1991, making them quite the commodity when they were finally released.
