Marketed from Dodge at the beginning of 1962, the Custom 880 Convertible was developed to fill consumer demand for a full sized passenger car. Plymouth and Dodge designed were placed on an emergency downsizing plan as a way to stay in the running with Chevrolet. The plan for Chevrolet was to downsized their full-sized designs into smaller vehicles. These convertibles were offered between the year of 1962 and 1965, during which the model underwent small, yearly modifications. In 1965 the model was discontinued to prepare to release a new model for 1966.
