In its March 1986 issue, Hot Rod Magazine named the 1974 Corvette one of the ten most collectible muscle cars, the only one produced after 1970 to make the list. The new model brought forth a few aesthetic and functional changes that separated it from its predecessors, the most notable of which was the modified bumper system. The rear end of the vehicle was changed drastically in shape and style, not just in order to implement ne3w safety standards, but also to update the look of the vehicle according to the decade’s aesthetic.
The exhaust system of the 1974 Chevrolet Corvette also received new resonators that helped its interior be quieter, and both the radiator and shroud were updated with better cooling equipment. In a first for the Corvette line, the model was the first two implement lap and shoulder seat belts, a feature which would only be available in the coupe.
