Additional Stats: New coupe body introduced, split rear window
The second generation of Chevrolet Corvettes featured a variety of changes separating it from the first iteration. The Corvette Sting Ray nameplate featured independent rear suspension, non-functional hood vents, and hidden headlamps. Most notably, however, the new generation featured a split rear window that the designers considered key to the new design of the C2 generation.
Zora Arkus Duntov, chief engineer of the Corvette line and renowned “father of the Corvette” was never a fan of the split rear window, claiming blocked rear visibility, so by the time the model went into its second year of production, the split rear window was replaced by a single pane. Its short lifespan has made the Corvette Rear Window a rarity among collectors, who are constantly seeking the unique exemplars in the classic car market.
