In 1967, safety was becoming an issue in the automobile industry and the US government mandated that all automakers comply with the new requirements.
Externally there were no major changes to the Riviera but internally, the fully compliant car now sported an energy-absorbing steering column and shoulder belt anchors as required by law. Under the hood, the engines kept getting progressively bigger and better. All Rivieras now came equipped with the 430 engine. An additional $138 dollars was all it took to add the GS package to the 1967 Riviera. Money well spent. The GS came with the same 430 engine as the standard Riviera but sported an upgraded suspension and red-line or white line tires among other features.
