The first Porsche 930, also known as the 911 Turbo, was put into production and introduced in 1975. The company originally needed to produce the car in order to comply with regulatory standards and specifications, as it was intended to be marketed as a street legal race vehicle. However, it ended up being available for sale to individual purchasers through manufacturer dealer networks. From there, the Porsche 911 Turbo became one of the most famous and popular models for each generation and a premium over standard models.
The 930 model came with the same 3.0L turbocharged engine that was initially designed for the 1973 CAN-AM racer Model 917/30. The car was given a suspension revision, larger brakes, larger wheels, wider tires, and flared fenders in order to handle the higher power output. The “Whale Tail” spoiler, or large rear spoiler was added to help create downforce at the rear and push more air through the engine. The car utilizes a single KKK turbocharger and received a stronger 4-speed gearbox. Its rear-engine replacement was advantageous for traction and keeping the engine at high revs helped minimize turbo-lag.
