The Porsche 993 line, which was known in the market at the 1997 Porsche 911, represented a technological and aesthetic advance in regards to previous models of the 911 line. The rear wheel arches were widened, improving upon the car’s stability and reducing the tendency to oversteer that was so characteristic of previous models in the line. It also introduced six-speed transmission into the line as the standard. Larger brakes with drilled discs, a dual-flow exhaust system, and revised power steering were also among the improvements enacted.
The 1997 Porsche 911 has a number of different variants available, including the Carrera, the Targa, the Turbo, and two new ones introduced in the 1997 model year, the Turbo S and the Carrera S. Through larger KKK K-24 turbochargers, the 1997 Porsche Turbo S achieved a 424 hp power upgrade. The Carrera S shared the Turbo model but actually housed a naturally aspirated engine in the rear. Both models had a slightly lower suspension compared to other variant models.
