The 1993 Porsche 911, internally known in the company as part of the Porsche 964 model, was a new iteration of the Carrera line. The 1992 Porsche Carrera RS was kept out of the American market on the grounds that the car’s aggressive tuning was not suited for it. However, 42 similar models were imported for a proposed Porsche Carrera cup series that ended up being canceled. These were supplied with a plaque indicating their unique origin and then quietly sold through dealer channels as the Carrera Cup US Edition.
This was only the beginning of the Carrera RS line in the United States. The devout American public, fans of the Porsche 911, wanted the introduction of an actual RS model into the American market, which led to the 1993 Porsche 911 in the form of the Carrera RS America. This unique model featured a partially stripped interior, flat door panels, and carpeting, distinctive whale tail spoiler, and a luggage shelf instead of the rear seats. In order to save weight, the standard model lacked air conditioning, powered side mirrors, sunroof, cruise control, power steering, and radio.
