It would be almost impossible for Corvette to successfully follow up on the 1979 Corvette, which boasted (and still boasts) the highest sales year for the line. The 1980 Corvette, however, was a brave attempt at doing so, and, although the model sold over twelve-thousand units less than its predecessor, it still introduced a variety of new features that subsequently made their mark. These changes were all minor and almost invisible to the untrained eye, but significant in the model’s performance.
Aerodynamic spoilers were implemented and the hood was redesigned in order to reduce drag and increase radiator air flow. The model standardized air conditioning, exterior sport mirrors, tilt-telescopic steering columns, power windows, and the convenience group in the Corvette line. The model additionally marked the end of the crossed-flag emblems from the front fenders. These were redesigned for the nose and the fuel door.
