During the production of the 1977 Corvette, the iconic sports car line reached a significant milestone: since their production started in 1953, Chevrolet had manufactured half a million Corvettes. They celebrated with their highest year of sales in the line with nearly fifty thousand units of the 1977 Corvette produced. The year phased out the Stingray nameplate seen on the front fenders and these were replaced by simpler cross-flag emblems.

Receiving mostly minor updates from previous models, the 1977 entry into the Corvette lineup addressed the few criticisms of its 1976 iteration. The steering wheel was redesigned and repositioned, the sun visors were now able to swivel sideways, and both power steering and power breaks were made standard procedure.
