The minor changes enacted upon the 1968 Corvette emphasize both the innovative quality of the design, the outstanding performance of the vehicle, and the commercial success of the model in the general market. The result was the 1969 Chevrolet Corvette, which succeeded its predecessor in both chronology and sales, selling over ten-thousand units more than its 1968 counterpart.
The changes incurred consisted of an increased engine displacement, which introduced the 350 CID small-block engine to the Corvette line, backup lights integrated into the inboard taillights, redesigned exterior door handles, and the option for side-mounted exhausts and front fender trim. These last two were particular to the 1969 production year, having never been featured again in the Corvette line.
