Buick restyled the Riviera for model year 1970 giving the car a different look and feel from the 1969. Exposed quad lights, a new vertical grille and a new rear bumper were just some of the changes. Fender skirts also appeared for the first and last time on the Riviera.
The engine also received an upgrade which resulted in greater power and speed. Despite the changes, some for the better, the restyle was not well received by the public and this was reflected in the sales of the car which dropped in excess of 15,000 units.
