The Buick Riviera was restyled for model year 1968 and while the car shared its body with the Cadillac El Dorado and the Oldsmobile Toronado, the similarities end there. The 1968 Riviera sported a restyled grille , new bumper, recessed headlights and square parking lamps. There were changes to the instrument panel as well and in keeping with the new safety standards, shoulder belts were now standard on all cars. The 1968 Riviera could be ordered with bench or bucket seats in black vinyl or parchment vinyl. The 430 was the only engine offered that year however, for those customers choosing the GS package, the suspension and handling were upgraded and more robust, resulting in a smoother more comfortable ride.
