The 1966 Buick Riviera was completely different from its first-generation predecessors.
The bigger, heavier car had an elongated hood, redesigned taillights, enclosed vertical headlamps and vent less side windows. The side scoops seen on previous models were removed for 1965 and a chrome bar was added to the exterior. The Gran Sport option was still available. Highly customizable, the car was available in a plethora of exterior and interior options. Previous models came with bucket seats but for model year 1966, the customer could order conventional seats, a strato- bench or strato bucket seats. The car was well received by the public and in fact, one industry magazine dubbed it the “Handsomest Car of 1966.”
